There are now twice as many bicycles in the world as cars, and three times as many bikes are being produced globally.
In heavy city traffic, cars and bicycles travel at nearly equal speeds. Where there are special bicycle lanes, cyclists can even reach their destination more quickly than motorists. Cycling is an environmentally friendly, healthy and cost-effective way to get around. However, there are several factors that discourage the more widespread use of bicycles, including an unfavourable climate or terrain, poor awareness of cyclists’ needs on the part of motorists, a lack of bicycle lanes, and the high cost of bicycles. In Ukraine, it therefore makes sense, in terms of both efficiency and the environment, to combine cycling with the use of public transport.
