Take care in conflict zones

If you are travelling to an area that has been subject to terrorist attacks or warfare (whether residential buildings, wooded areas, farms, fields or beaches), you risk coming across unexploded ordnance, including landmines, shells and grenades. If you cannot avoid such places, follow some general safety rules:

  • Ask the locals or a reliable guide about the most dangerous places.
  • Never enter dilapidated and abandoned buildings.
  • Do not approach explosives such as landmines, shells or grenades.
  • Do not go near, and do not touch, any suspicious object.
